The September issue of TrustNews contains a fascinating article by Judith Martin on the extraordinary women of Winchester. The article describes just a few of the amazing women who were featured in last year’s Heritage Open Days Extraordinary Women exhibition. A second tranche of extraordinary women will be celebrated at this year’s Heritage Open Days exhibition in the Great Hall from 13th-22nd September. There is a report on the Trust’s very enjoyable visit to the Red House at Bexleyheath and the historic Eltham Palace a few miles away in Blackheath. In his Chairman’s Jottings, Keith Leaman reiterates the Trust’s concerns about the proposed Station Approach development, and the increasing trend for developers to buy sites containing large, often architecturally or historically interesting houses and replacing them with large housing developments.
