Trust dismayed that Station Approach development given outline planning permission

13th September - The Trust is very concerned that despite widespread reservations, Winchester City Council’s Planning Committee yesterday approved the outline planning application for the proposed Station Approach development.

The Trust has raised serious objections to the scheme over and over again with City Council councillors and officers.  WCC’s own landscape, urban design and historic environment officers and the Design Southeast Regional Design Panel, have also expressed concerns.

The Trust’s concerns arise primarily with the mass and height of the proposed development and the number of car parking spaces, as well as its design.  Trust Vice-Chairman, John Beveridge, spoke at the Planning Committee meeting yesterday, asking the committee to defer the decision so that account could be taken of the concerns raised by the professional consultees.

Councillors on the Committee voted six to three in favour of the application.  It was noticeable that the three Councillors who voted against the application all represent wards in or near Winchester.
