Privacy and Data Protection

A new EU Privacy Regulation (the GDPR) became law in the UK in May 2018. The aim of the legislation is to protect the public from misuse of their data.

The GDPR must be followed by all companies, organisations and charities in the EU. Although the UK is leaving the EU the UK Government has already stated that it will follow this European legislation. The legislation requires every organisation to ensure its membership understands the data it has collected about them and that the data is up to date. The organisation must protect the data of members, employees and volunteers, and ensure it is held securely to prevent theft and misuse.
